I've been posting so many progress pictures on facebook that I feel like Iíve been ignoring the "Submit" button here on dA. But in order to prevent flooding inboxes, I told myself I'd post a progress picture here on dA once I had gotten rather far on Twilight Sparkle. And after all of the work I've spent on the vest and how long I've spent on the wig I figured it was high time to show it off a little and share.Storytime!!
Sometime during last summer, I was told by a few friends to, "Watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! It's Amazing!" I have to admit I really wasn't sure what to think I mean, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Sure I had watched a few clips here and there and I laughed at a certain pink pony's randomness (Pinkie Pie) but watch the show itself? Hmm... You know what, why not? I had time to kill, and I was pretty frustrated with my Sephiroth cosplay by that point (Pleather can be pretty evil, at times) so I went to Youtube, looked it up, and started to watch the first episode. One episode became two, two became three, and... before I knew it I was wondering when the heck season 2 was gonna be out.
While watching, I was reminded of so many shows that I watched as a kid. Plus I was really starting to relate and love a certain purple unicorn who always had her nose in a book, and was more concerned with studying then socializing and how that all changed once she came to Ponyville.
It was kind of haunting for me, as Twilight's story at the beginning of the series was almost a mirror image of my own going into college. In fact I came to my college town purely to study. I didn't have that many friends back at home, nor did I really care much about making them until I met my first roommate- *Malindachan
-and the rest they say is history.
To this day, I'm still very dedicated to my studies (I'm taking 12 hours of class just for kicks and to bring my GPA up, when I really should be taking only three hours). I love reading, I love doing research, and- I have to admit- If I could live in a library I would *does not have enough bookcases for all of her books*. Plus... And I really hate to admit this as it's kinda embarrassing- the episode "Lesson Zero" was pretty creepy for me to watch as that's how I was during finals week last semester (Iíve been told by a few friends that that wasnít the only time Iíve acted like that but Iím not gonna admit it... my freaking out can be a bit scary for all involved.
Yes there are some of the other Ponies that I can relate to in one form or another (I'm hoping to one day cosplay Applebloom as I love that little filly) but Twilight Sparkle managed to magic her way into my heart (cheesy, but true). Thus I chose to work on her design right away. </Storytime End>
For Twilight Sparkle's Gijinka design I decided to do a bit of a cross between a schoolgirl, and a girl who wants to dress to make the right impression (If this where a show featuring human girls, I could see Twilight showing up to Ponyville in her school uniform, but as she starts to consider it home she starts to dress in more comfortable clothes). I found the lilac shirt at Goodwill, a pair of purple Converse All Stars on sale, as well as this awesome plaid fabric for the school-girl skirt and the design just kind of made itself. There's a few things I may add to it as time passes but I'm not too worried about it right now.
Right now all I have to work is the pleated wrap skirt, the cutie mark necklace (to go with the one on the back of my vest: [link]
), and I may work some kinks out of my wig. I'm planning on working on the necklace tomorrow alongside my Percy Jackson Camp-Halfblood shirt and I plan on tackling the wrap skirt on Friday and into the weekend hopefully to finish on Sunday. I (Pinkie) promise Twilight will be ready for Naka!
