"The story of lilac, according to Greek mythology, begins with a beautiful nymph named Syringa (lilac’s botanical name). Captivated by her beauty, Pan, the god of the forests and fields, chased Syringa through the forest. Frightened by Pan’s affections, Syringa escaped him by turning herself into an aromatic bush – the flower we now refer to as lilac. The 8th wedding anniversary flower and the state flower of New Hampshire (symbolizing the hardy character of the Granite State’s citizens), lilacs are frequently considered a harbinger of spring, with the time of their bloom signaling whether spring will be early or late. In the language of flowers, purple lilacs symbolize the first emotions of love, while white lilacs represent youthful innocence." -Teleflora.com
Next to lilies and roses, Lilacs have always been one of my favorite flowers. Most of my childhood summers were scented with lilac and honeysuckle. Ever since then It's not a spring or summer for me without smelling them at least once.
Oh, I love lilac... we used to have a lilac tree in our backyard, 'cos my momma loves it too, and purple is her favorite color, and every spring she'd cut down bundles and bundles of lilac and put them in flower vases around the house.
Then my dumb big brothers, being the children they were, would cling onto its branches and snap them off and get scolded by our mom, 'cos it was her favorite tree. Eventually it died and had to be removed. No thanks to the boys and their rowdiness...
But they were children, so, even I can't be too mad.
Either way I still adore lilac to this day. I love remembering our tree...

I can see it now.
So lovely...
